The past weeks have been totally crazy energywise. A lot of questions were raised about different aspects and truths about ourselves that need answers or reevaluation.
The planets have been very persistent with us, it seems like the universe wants to wake us up and show us all the different ways we can evaluate our situations, beliefs, and habits so we can step into transforming all that needs to change and step into the power of our truth and authenticity.
This full moon in Libra happening right now is asking us to sit in stillness for a moment, integrate all of the lessons we learned, and let our soul rest from the energetic turbulence of the first quarter of 2025.
But how on earth do you do that if you feel lost in the hurricane of events and emotions, things just don’t seem to work out, questions go unanswered, and nothing anyone could say or do short of waving a magic wand and making it all go away, can make you unfeel the confusion that still prevails.
Well, I´m here to hand you that magic wand.
If you could pick any emotion and just feel it no matter what is happening in your world, what would it be?
If there is nothing to feel great about, teach your body to feel great anyway!
You can change your emotions via meditation in just 15 minutes!
I’m sure you have heard all kinds of experts talk about brain waves. There are millions of YouTube videos about that kind of stuff.
I´m no expert, however, I was looking for an explanation for why something so simple as meditation can change how you feel even though it doesn’t seem to change anything in your world.
In this blog, I will share the short version of what I found.
Did you know that it’s – scientifically speaking – impossible to feel any stress while your brain waves operate in Theta?
In order to know what meditation does and how to use it to feel better, we need to understand what the different stages of the meditative state feel like.
What does it feel like when your brain fires at the frequencies of Beta, Alpha, and Theta waves, and why is that important?
When your brain is in high-beta, different areas of your brain fire like crazy as your thoughts jump from one thing to the next. You think about all the things you have to do, the places you have to go, and the people and situations you have to deal with.
It is quite important in your waking state when you have work to do and need to be focused and alert.
However, when you are stressed, your brain is all over the place and starts firing incoherently. The result is you become even more stressed as your focus is starting to get completely fixed on the issue at hand.
If you take a moment to relax and put your attention and energy on nothing (the VOID), you increase the alpha brain waves. You feel your thoughts calming down and your focus broadening from very specific plans and actions to a more general state of being.
Especially if you are a visual person, you will know when this happens as you might start thinking more in pictures and images than words. This is because your brain is starting to synchronize as the right and left hemispheres merge and the creative mind unifies with the planning side.
You are still alert but calm, as if whatever was happening and upsetting you is all of a sudden not that important anymore. The famous strategy of taking a few deep breaths can get you into that state very quickly.
Whether you are sitting cross legged with candles lit, or just taking a few minutes breathing and with your eyes closed in front of your computer screen, you are meditating whether you realize it or not.
If you decide to meditate for a bit longer and stay in that calmer alpha state of mind allowing yourself to go deeper into relaxation – almost to a trance-like state – you will trigger theta brain waves to fire and become more dominant.
When you are in theta, it feels like you´re so relaxed you don’t even notice your body anymore. You are in that space where you are neither awake nor asleep, fully aware of what’s going on in your mind but in such relaxation that you forget everything else around you.
In this state, it’s impossible to feel stressed in any way.
You might feel absolutely nothing or be overcome with a feeling of love and gratitude. It just automatically happens, you don’t have to force your mind into thinking gratitude, it is as if the
mind just settles in that emotional state because it simply wants to be there.
Meditation brings your attention to the present moment and teaches your body to settle into the sweet spot of the present moment, somewhere between the predictable past and future.
This is when all depression goes away because your brain is not accessing past memories and playing movies in your head to constantly keep you trapped in a certain emotional state.
Anxiety just evaporates as in that moment of complete relaxation and peace, there is no past that can paint the picture of the apocalyptic future that you are facing.
Meditation puts you in the present moment. This means that you can just be without any judgment, you can simply enjoy the complete absence of anything. Just you and your soul having a soulmate conversation.
The more you can stay in that energy of the present moment, first in meditation, then with your eyes open, the faster your perception of the world around you will change.
Daily meditation that will put your mind into alpha and theta brain waves is very important. It teaches you what it feels like to be in that present moment so that you can then take that feeling with you and find it throughout your day so that you can learn to eventually stay with this present moment most of the time or at least switch it on at will whenever you need it.
Did you know that this state of the present moment is not restricted to meditation?
The best thing is, once you get familiar with how you feel in alpha and theta, you will start noticing that you feel like this several times a day. We naturally and without realizing it, slip into theta frequently. When and how this happens will be different for everyone.
This can happen when:
- Talking to plants
- Looking at the birds
- Seeing a beautiful flower
- Going for a walk in nature
- Doing an activity you enjoy so much you forget even time
- Something that makes you laugh uncontrollably
- Staring into a crackling fire
- Watching and listening to the rain
- You might see and smell a flower that makes you forget the world for a second.
- Remember the last time you did something and got completely lost in it that you forgot even time. When you looked up you realized how much you got done and how effortless it felt.
- Do you catch yourself daydreaming for a bit every now and then?
- Did your thoughts wander to a relaxed and different place while you were sweeping your front yard?
