As I´m preparing to open the doors to my coaching / spiritual services / energy healing / nutrition and fitness counseling business…..
If you just thought ´huh which is it?´you hit the nail on its head.
Maybe this is the reason I wanted to do this for many years but never did. It just seems to be all over the place. I should choose what I want to do and then do it and leave the rest, correct?
But what if all of these things are of utmost importance to me? What if I feel that coaching purely nutrition, or establishing myself as a postnatal exercise specialist, or simply giving Reiki sessions and Tarot readings, all feel like they lack something essential?
Learning to express the concept in my head – that you cannot separate the spiritual from the physical, that there is no division between science and spirituality, that you cannot just look at what seems obvious but have to dig much deeper to see the connection things have and therefore get to see the whole picture and not just one aspect – is noy easy and will take me a while. But one has to start somewhere, right?
So this blogpost is meant to be my first attempt to bridge the gap and express my take on the science versus spirituality debate and why I find that there shouldn’t be a topic of debate in the first place.
Science vs spirituality should not be a topic of debate
There is a wave of esoteric practices promoting spiritual awakening flooding the planet.
And this is not bad at all. On the contrary, shifting your focus away from your daily problems towards reaching your full potential at the things that really matter to you and lead to you improving the quality of your life is the key to your emotional fulfillment and happiness. And who doesn’t want to be happy?
But what about science and what we know to be true?
Let’s take meditation for example: Aren´t the profound and positive effects this spiritual practice brings to millions of people nothing but a scientific process that takes place in our brain?
As a matter of fact, scientists wanted to know what the hype is all about and were able to scientifically measure and explain the effect meditation has on the brain by monitoring and interpreting brain waves and frequencies a person experiences during meditation.
Or was it spiritual people who wanted to prove to scientists that meditation is a real thing?
Nobody knows anymore what was first, the hen or the egg. But does it actually matter?
Scientists have studied the effect meditation has on the brain and discovered that with meditation practices we can induce certain frequencies and according to the brain waves we are able to access we can induce certain states of consciousness or mind. From deep relaxation to hypnosis to DMT-like, hallucinative experiences.
Meditation sounds very spiritual but in the end, frequencies and brain waves are a very scientific and even medical thing.
So a spiritualist will tell you to meditate so that you can leave your physical (bodily) restrictions behind and expand your spirit, access your higher self and reach higher frequencies.
The doctor might tell you that your digestive problems come from stress and you should meditate to access Alpha brain waves which will lead to your mind calming down and therefore significantly reducing stress and the (scientifically proven) effect it has on your digestive health.
Whatever words you use, the effect is the same, so does it really matter?
Is there really a division between science and spirituality?
Is there a conflict between modern medicine and alternative healing practices?
Does it matter wheather you say meditation or accessing Alpha brain waves?
Science has never disproved the positive effect that spiritual practices have on us, and spiritualists can never claim that their practices lack any scientific bases.
Dear skeptic, please don’t judge us spiritual people by the words and actions of some who lost their sense of humility somewhere on their journey!
And dear Spiritualist, please don’t separate yourself from the rest of the world, there is no here or there, there only is ´as above so below´.
As I see it, there is no division between spiritual people and skeptic people, I actually don’t believe in calling someone a skeptic (I stole that word talking to someone who referred to himself as a skeptic), we simply have different perspectives and express concepts in a different way. If you´re truly spiritual, you will be able to appreciate the many different perspectives each and every person and situation has.
But science vs spirituality sounds so different. How can it be the same?
In order to show you what I mean when I say that people simply have different perspectives and express the same concept in different words, the following is a paragraph written in the language highly spiritual people would use aka spiritual jargon, followed by how you could say the same thing to a person who considers themselves down-to-earth and practical aka skeptic.
If you are going through a dark night of your soul, knowing yourself through shadow work and opening your third eye to reach out and let in higher vibrations to raise your frequency is the key to spiritual awakening and evolving your soul so it can recognize the contract it has with the universe and awaken your psychic gifts and fully walk in your purpose as a lightworker.
Translation:
If you´re stuck and stressed out, go for a walk, relax and think about what really matters to you in this life. This way you can center yourself again, cut out the unimportant stuff that only stresses you out and focus on what it is that makes you feel good and what you want to achieve in this life and that will make you feel like you are making a difference and living in a purposeful and therefore fulfilled way.
What I’m trying to say here
My hope is that with this article I managed to start bridging the gap and taking the first step towards showing that there is no division between the spiritual and the physical. There are a million ways to express the same concept in different words, there is the scientific language and the spiritual language. If you are open and tolerant enough to look deeper, you will realize that at the end, it’s all the same. Because we are one, the only separation that exists between us is in our heads.
How we see the world is totally up to us, we decide on the perspective we want to take.
I, for myself, have decided to take on a spiritual perspective because it helps me see the whole picture. It helps me see those little magickal connections everywhere.
This is what I do in my coaching. I bridge the gap between science, mindset and spirituality for a holistic approach that sees the whole person, not just the calories you are eating, the exercise you are (not) doing, or your spiritual practices or lack thereof.
I realized that depending on how we look at things, it can look like magic but really it is pure science. Or it can look like science but really it is very magical and even the most hardcore scientists cannot explain all the aspects of the precision in which the science of the universe operates. It almost looks like there is another force orchestrating it all. And if this is true, what is the difference? Or is there even a difference?
Seen in this light, Einstein’s famous quote makes a lot of sense and takes on a whole new depth of importance:
There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
We have the power to choose how we want to see the world, what perspective we want to take on. There is no right or wrong, there is just what makes you feel happy and what aligns best with your values.
But at the end (I just have to say it), no matter which way you turn it, there is always magick in everything – if you want to see it!
